Core Knowledge

Placer Academy Charter uses the Core Knowledge® curriculum based on the research of E.D. Hirsh.  In order to attain academic achievement, education must be solid, specific, shared and sequenced. An education grounded in shared knowledge of history, science, art and music is also the great equalizer. The Core Knowledge®  Foundation believes that for the sake of academic excellence, greater equity, and higher literacy, elementary and middle schools need to teach a coherent, cumulative, and content-specific core curriculum.  Core Knowledge is a rigorous curriculum, founded on the principle that knowledge builds on knowledge.  Furthermore, a broad knowledge base directly relates to language growth and the ability to continually advance learning.

To find out ore about this curriculum please visit http://www.coreknowledge.org.

We recommend that you purchase the book (according to you child’s grade), What Your Nth Grader Needs to Know edited by E.D. Hirsch Jr. This book will give you a very good idea of the material the teachers will be teaching. It is meant for parents and children to enjoy together.
