Placer Academy WEEKLY UPDATES
September 21, 2020
FUN WITH FIRST GRADE MATH:
These first graders share how they solved their math problems. It is cuteness overload!
We want to show our staff some of that PAC Pride! We are hoping that you can send a SHOUT OUT about a staff member (teacher, aide, office, administration). Our very own Ms. Sheri has put together a fun bulletin board to brighten up our hallway. Plus, you might see your SHOUT OUT on social media. Please email your shout outs to Ms. Sheri.
Our architects are finalizing the construction drawings and we are hopeful to start construction in late September or early October. We are excited to share our preliminary drawings with you!
We will be posting all of our art projects on Artsonia, which is an online art portfolio for students to showcase their artwork. It not only allows parents to see what their artists are working on in class and share the artwork with friends and relatives far away, but also offers us a wonderful way to earn funds for the artroom through customized keepsakes.
By giving permission you allow your child's art to be published to our school gallery. Each child will receive a "screenname" which is their first name and number code, allowing all personal information to be private. You will also receive updates as to when new art is uploaded and have access to feedback given by friends and family with whom you have shared. If I have incorrectly submitted your child's name, just send me an email and I will update with the correct spelling or nickname.
This online service is free to our art program and is used by teachers all over the country. It is my hope that we can create our own school portfolio to share with all of our families and perhaps earn a little money to keep our art program going.
When you receive the email today, please grant user permission and get ready to enjoy all the artwork that we create during the school year.
PAC will provide “Grab & Go” shelf stable lunches. Lunches will be available for pick up at school on Mondays and will cost $5.75. For more information on how to order school lunches, click HERE.

Students that have not met all immunization requirements will NOT be permitted to start in-person instruction once the school campus reopens. If you have received notification that your child is due for immunizations, please call your doctor to schedule an appointment now. Many of the local pharmacies are also providing immunizations if that is preferred. If you are unable to obtain immunizations for your child, please email me ASAP so that I can provide resources. Once your child has received the immunizations, please bring an updated record to the school office. The school office is open Monday-Thursday from 7:45-3:45 and Fridays from 7:45-1:45.
HOW SELF-COMPASSION SUPPORTS ACADEMIC MOTIVATION AND EMOTIONAL WELLNESS:
Many of today’s parents and teachers came of age in the 1980s and 1990s — a time when the self-esteem movement was in its zenith. Self-esteem was supposed to be a panacea for a variety of social challenges, from substance abuse to violent crime. The research, however, did not support such broad claims.
