CHELSEA BRUMFIELD - SOCIAL STUDIES
Hi, I am Chelsea Brumfield and I am the Social Studies teacher at Placer Academy! I was born and raised in Menlo Park, California and attended Azusa Pacific University where I earned my B.A. in Elementary Ed. I then attended Kaplan University for a B.S. in Nutrition and finished out with my Master’s degree from National University. Needless to say, I love learning! Before settling in Lincoln in 2012, my husband was in the Army for 7 years and we were able to live in many beautiful places. I am a diehard Giants fan and was lucky enough to cheer them on at a World Series game in 2014!
We have two vivacious daughters and one sweet doggie named Cruz, and one cranky doggie named Abby. In my free time I like to do triathlons. I completed one of my bucket list aspirations by competing in a Half Ironman race in 2016. I enjoy gardening, reading, and spending time with my family in Santa Cruz. I also have a slight addiction to Starbucks (iced americano, caramel drizzle and creamer).
I feel so lucky I get to teach middle school students, I love what I do and see teaching as a team effort. I have high expectations for my students and myself. I strive to create life-long learners in my classroom, so we work hard and play hard.
EVAN JOHNSTON - LANGUAGE ARTS
Hi, my name is Evan Johnston and am thrilled to be teaching English at Placer Academy. I really appreciate the warm welcome and support I have received from families, staff and administration. I am honored and excited to be teaching the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders of PAC.
I grew up in the Sacramento area and have long desired to work with kids, to help them reach their potential and build self-confidence. I taught 7thgrade English and English Intervention the past two years for Twin Rivers USD. I taught two summers of English 10 and previously taught adult ESL classes for Highlands Community Charter. I love building relationships with students and families and I love learning. I am always juggling books, and hope to share my love for reading, writing and research with my students. I attended Chico State on a soccer scholarship and studied Literature. Completing my degree in English from Southern New Hampshire University allowed me to move back to Sacramento and begin working for One-on-One-Learning, a tutoring company for low SES students, and a non-profit afterschool program. I knew at this point I wanted to become a teacher and enrolled in William Jessup University’s credential + master’s program from which I graduated in 2017. I am a dog lover and owner of a quirky Mini-Australian Shepherd named George, after George Costanza. I am a soccer fanatic—play in a men’s league and wake up early every weekend to watch games. I enjoy anything outside—hiking, camping, BBQing—but also like watching old movies and sitcom reruns, when not reading or lesson planning.
Helping students of Placer Academy develop and hone the literary and rhetorical skills necessary to succeed in high school, college and beyond is my number one priority. Reading, discussing and continually writing about classic fiction and nonfiction texts will ensure a strong foundation of skills and content knowledge from which Placer Academy students will grow leaps and bounds. Thank you for the opportunity to share my enthusiasm and ideas with the Placer Academy school and vision.
CORI WILLIAMS - Math
Hi, my name is Cori Williams and I teach Upper Academy math at Placer Academy Charter.
I grew up in Woodland, California and attended Wheaton College, which is near Chicago, where I received my degree in elementary education and a minor is psychology. I had the opportunity to teach abroad in Senegal, West Africa and I have been teaching in California for thirteen years.
My wonderful husband and I have an enthusiastic seven year old son and a curious three year old daughter. In my free time I enjoy hiking, reading, and sailing with my dad.
I am pleased to be a part of this team at Placer Academy and enjoy each school year as an exciting opportunity for learning!
Kelly fisher - Science
Hi, my name is Kelly Fisher! I am thrilled to be joining Placer Academy this year as your new Middle school Science teacher. Thank you for welcoming me into this fresh chapter of teaching career!
I taught 7th-grade Math and Science at Rocklin Academy Gateway for the past three years. Previous to that, I taught 7th and 8th grade Science and advanced the curriculum by implementing the NGSS, (Next Generation Science Standards.) I am always searching for ways to incorporate 21st century technology into education. I instituted several electives such as Minecraft, Computer Coding, and a STEM based on this idea. I want to prepare my students for the changing world ahead, and tap into their natural inclination towards technology. My classroom will be fun and engaging, fostering students natural creativity, curiosity, and will challenge each student to flourish.
I am a mother of three amazing kids. Emily 20, Zach 18, and Jake 16. We enjoy spending time together cooking, camping, playing board games, watching movies, and playing video games. The Sacramento area has been good to us, and we look forward to future adventures. When I’m not with my kids I am likely to be doing puzzles, watering my garden, watching football, or listening to podcasts.
Thank you for the opportunity to make an impact on this school and its vision. It is going to be a rewarding year, and I look forward to connecting with each of you, students and families alike.

JEANETTE BOYNTON - intervention/drama
Hello! My name is Jeanette and I joined our little community in January, 2016. I am thrilled to be starting my fifth year here at Placer Academy. A native of Washington state, I earned my BS in education at universities in British Columbia and Virginia. I have three beautiful “twenty-somethings” and have been teaching since before they were born. I’ve been face-to-face with the joys and challenges of public, private, charter, homeschool, and online classrooms for over 30 years. Most recently, I taught junior high drama at a wonderful performing arts charter school for seven years before coming to the Rocklin area to be near family. Our first grand-girl was born last year and we couldn’t be happier. While theatre is my first love, I am also drawn to the wonders of language arts and the challenges of math. I am honored to offer help and encouragement to students through intervention practices as well as in drama class and on the stage. Please feel free to email me with questions and comments and I look forward to seeing you at one of our performances! “Letters and numbers and lines, oh my!”
