Karen Allen - SOCIAL STUDIES
I am a local girl who grew up right here in the Loomis area. I went to a local elementary school, attended Del Oro High School, Sierra Junior College and went on to Sacramento State University where I received both my Bachelors Degree and teaching credential. I have been married to the same wonderful man for the past twenty-nine years. We have been blessed with two wonderful children. Our oldest, Katrina is a newlywed who married her high school sweetheart this past June. She is following in the family teaching legacy and hopes to have her teaching credential completed in the next two years. My son Derek is a student a William Jessup and is pursuing a career in Psychology. My Core Knowledge training encompasses the majority of my teaching experience. I began my teaching career as a Kindergarten teacher in Loomis. I moved on to Rocklin Academy where I spent six years as a first grade and fourth grade teacher. I then transferred to Accelerated Learning Academy where I taught grades fourth, seventh, eighth and ninth. This last year I taught at Global Youth Charter School in the sixth grade. I am truly looking forward to working with your children this year! It is my goal to help my students grow socially and academically and to help prepare them for their years ahead in high school.
Jeanne blake - LANGUAGE ARTS
My name is Jeanne Blake, and I am excited join the Placer Academy Team as a middle school teacher. I was born in Auburn and went to school at Newcastle Elementary from K-8th grade where I experienced wonderful teachers and a felt strong sense of community. I earned my BA from Sacramento State University in Psychology and Criminal Justice, but after volunteering as a tutor in the Placer County Juvenile Hall, I discovered I had a passion for teaching. I went back to Sac State for my teaching credential, and I have been teaching in the Yuba City Unified School District for the past 13 years. I taught 5th, 2nd, and 3rd grades until I became the Reading Intervention Teacher for Andros Karpreos School. As an Interventionist, I worked with students from Kindergarten through 8th grade who had trouble acquiring reading skills and managed our school’s Response to Intervention program. Watching students become successful and push themselves to master a challenge is awesome. Nothing gives me more joy than watching a child discover that they CAN do something! My son, husband, and I are happy to be moving back home to Placer County to spend time with our family and friends.
Shelli mcclain - Math
I found my passion for teaching while volunteering in my children’s classrooms. This compelled me to go back to college, and I graduated from William Jessup University with my bachelor’s in Liberal Studies and my minor in Bible and Theology. My wonderful family has supported me through this amazing adventure. My husband and I have three children and two dogs; a crazy Golden Retriever dog named Max and his tiny side-kick, a Lhasa Apso named Scrunchi. We are a fiercely devoted soccer family. All three children have played soccer from a very young age, and John and I have never grown weary of cheering them on. I am excited about the opportunity I have been given to partner with other Placer Academy families to ensure the success of our students. I spend a great deal of time reminding my students about the power of the "Collective Brain" (many minds working together to solve the world's problems). I encourage team work and cooperative learning. Let’s not forget that it takes a team to get the ball down the field, but in the end, you can’t make a goal unless you take the shot. I look forward to encouraging your kids to take their shot.
Kelly fisher - Science
Hi, my name is Kelly Fisher! I am thrilled to be joining Placer Academy this year as your new Middle school Science teacher. Thank you for welcoming me into this fresh chapter of teaching career!
I taught 7th-grade Math and Science at Rocklin Academy Gateway for the past three years. Previous to that, I taught 7th and 8th grade Science and advanced the curriculum by implementing the NGSS, (Next Generation Science Standards.) I am always searching for ways to incorporate 21st century technology into education. I instituted several electives such as Minecraft, Computer Coding, and a STEM based on this idea. I want to prepare my students for the changing world ahead, and tap into their natural inclination towards technology. My classroom will be fun and engaging, fostering students natural creativity, curiosity, and will challenge each student to flourish.
I am a mother of three amazing kids. Emily 20, Zach 18, and Jake 16. We enjoy spending time together cooking, camping, playing board games, watching movies, and playing video games. The Sacramento area has been good to us, and we look forward to future adventures. When I’m not with my kids I am likely to be doing puzzles, watering my garden, watching football, or listening to podcasts.
Thank you for the opportunity to make an impact on this school and its vision. It is going to be a rewarding year, and I look forward to connecting with each of you, students and families alike.
