RACHEL PICCARDO - RESOURCE
Hello! My name is Rachel Piccardo and I am so excited to be joining the team at Placer Academy. I began my journey working with students in the San Juan Unified School District as an Assistant for the before and after school programs. I then became a preschool teacher and later an Instructional Assistant. I received a Bachelor's Degree in Child Development at Sacramento State University and went on to receive my teaching credential in Moderate-Severe Special Education as well as a Masters Degree in Special Education at National University. I have A total of 8 years experience working with students whom have special needs. I have 3 years experience as an Instructional Assistant and 5 years teaching experience. I am currently working to obtain my Mild-Moderate Special education credential and will have it completed by May of 2020. I am married and have an amazing 6 year old son and a 4 year old daughter. I enjoy trips to the beach, trips to Tahoe with family, taking boat rides on Folsom Lake and the river, being artsy with friends and singing! I believe all students should feel safe, comfortable to be themselves and inspired to grow and learn in their academic environment. I am so grateful to be apart of the Placer Academy family! RUTH VELLUTINI - SPEECH PATHOLOGIST
I am thrilled to be returning to PAC this school year! It’s an honor to be a part of such a wonderful staff. I completed both my Bachelor and Master of Science in Communication Disorders and Sciences at The University of Oregon over 20 years ago but I’m still a proud Ducks fan! I worked in both educational and medical settings in Oregon and Idaho before relocating to Placer County in 2003. In 2005 my first of three sons was born so I decided to take some time off and focus on caring for them. I consider those years the best type of continuing education in childhood development and behavior management that I have ever had! Now I enjoy the best of both worlds as a part time SLP. If I’m not at school I am likely working in the yard, walking the dog or shuttling my kiddos between extracurricular activities. A common misconception is that students who go to “Speech” are only working on improving articulation skills. In reality, that is only one aspect of communication that an SLP may target. I also help address language development, speech fluency, and my favorite area, social-communication skills. I consider pragmatic language skills to be our most important life skill. One of my favorite places to be is out on the playground, facilitating conversation and play. If you have any concerns about your child’s communication skills, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I am looking forward to another great year!
