Allons-y! ¡Vámonos! Let’s go!
ANDREA PERRON - PA SPANISH
I am pleased to be your child’s Spanish teacher this year. I was born and raised in Bogotá – Colombia, so Spanish is my native tongue. I am very proud to teach my language and my culture to the children. I attended university at “Universidad Distrital Francisco Jose de Caldas, where I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Modern Languages - English and Spanish-.I began my career as a teacher in Colombia and I worked at both private and public schools. I lived for four years in Quebec before moving to Pennsylvania back in 2009. Living in different countries has given me a better understanding of the foreign language acquisition process. I was blessed to be a stay-at-home mom and it gave me time to teach my sons Spanish and help them communicate fluently at an early age. This is a personal achievement that makes me very proud. I have also been an active volunteer at my kids’ school supporting independent learning and providing one-on-one instructions. Moving to California earlier this year has brought new expectations, hopes, dreams, adventures and chapters in our family life. This will be my first year as a Spanish teacher in the United States. I plan on taking advantage of my personal experience to help students assimilate and learn. I enjoy cooking, watching “novelas” (soap operas), and traveling to see my family in South America. I love to spend time with my husband, François, (in case you are wondering about his name, yes, he is a lovely French Canadian), and my two boys, Esteban (12) and Tomás (10) and my kitty cat (also from Colombia), Cristal. I'm excited about the 2019-2020 school year at Placer Academy Charter!
Krista Hilmen - Art
Ever since I was a little girl I knew I wanted to be a teacher, but NEVER did I think I would end up being an art teacher. Having graduated with a Major in English Literature and a minor in American History and earning my Single Subject as well as Multiple Subjects credentials, I taught many years as a middle school and high school English teacher and two years as a fourth grade teacher. And then I stopped- and stayed home with my four baby goats (kids) until they were all in school. When my oldest was in third grade I began to volunteer in the classroom and in the school. I helped create the art docent program, established the annual Art Show and transitioned it all into a weekly art class for all students! This is the BEST job I never knew I wanted. Working with kids all day- the best! Creating all day long- the best! And working at PAC, where all my kids have gone to school- the best! So, all in all, I am a pretty lucky gal. When I am not at school…you can find me reading, sewing, camping, watching British period dramas, trying to minimize laundry and figuring out how to DIY my way through life. Oh yes, and enjoying my pretty darn amazing husband and four baby goats.
RUTHIE NEBEKER - PA MUSIC
My name is Ruthie Nebeker and I am thrilled to be teaching Music at Placer Academy! I grew up in California‘s Central Valley and graduated from CSU Stanislaus with a BA in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Child Development. I then went on to obtain a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. Shortly after, I got married and moved to Sacramento where I taught 3rd and 4th graders at an after school program and worked as a supervising teaching for a homeschool charter. By this time I had become a mom and decided to put teaching on hold in order to stay at home with my children. During these years as a stay at home mom, I found many ways to teach children as a volunteer. My love of teaching music to children was ignited 10 years ago when I was asked to lead the children’s choir at my church. I served for 3 years and loved every minute of it! When my children began attending Placer Academy, I became a music docent and over the last few years have taught music to Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 6th grade students. I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to share my love and enthusiasm for music with all K-5 students at PAC on a weekly basis! My husband and I have 4 sons (yes I’m outnumbered!), 3 currently attending PAC and one PAC alumnus. As a family we enjoy camping, hiking, visiting national and state parks, and swimming. Besides my family, some of my other loves include my dog Penny, reading, planning vacations, running, podcasts, and Disneyland.
