PLACER ACADEMY CHARTER

Sexual Health Curriculum Resources

California Department of Education - Healthy Youth Act
Placer Academy Charter values the family role in educating our students.  An important aspect of this education is the support and guidance for our students as they grow and change through the teen years.  PAC feels that the conversations with students surrounding changing bodies, values, and smart choices is enhanced when parents engage in these topics with their kids.

What is the school's role in teaching Family Life?  California state law, the California Healthy Youth Act (AB 329), requires that comprehensive sexual health education and HIV prevention education be provided to students at least once in middle school and once in high school, starting in grade 7.  PAC will be teaching lessons regarding puberty, growth and development, anti-bullying, safe relationships, and sexual health to students in grades 5-8.

NO STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE INFORMATION WITHOUT PRIOR PARENT CONSENT.

Is there a curriculum that I can access?  Yes, there is.  The following resources are used by Placer Academy Charter to deliver instruction to our students:
  • Positive Prevention Plus Curriculum:  Placer Academy Schools Board of Directors has adopted the Positive Prevention Plus Curriculum.  Binders with full curriculum are located in the school office for review.  You can also access select lesson overviews online at https://static1.squarespace.com/static/557227cee4b0c5ac0270c331/t/588646bcbe659481e276d296/1485194943178/MSSH+Curriculum+Overview_2.pdf
  • Proctor and Gamble:  This curriculum has a series of videos and lesson plans that can be separated for boys and girls, and some that can be shown to both.  This curriculum does not deal with reproduction, but focuses on the changes that students are undergoing as a part of puberty.  All curriculum and videos can be download and reviewed using the link below.  http://www.pgschoolprograms.com/Educators
