We are so excited to welcome everyone back to school! There have been many amazing changes happening over the summer. We've given the interior a little face lift with brand new carpeting throughout the classrooms, some upgraded storage systems, and some new seating arrangements. The teachers have been working hard to get their rooms ready for the student on August 21.
In even bigger news, the PTO has been busy upgrading the playground area. They've installed a brand new soccer field with striping, a new climbing dome, a new reading cottage, and the garden is looking spectacular. They are installing some tetherball courts, updating our basketball court, and more!
Our Upper Academy is getting some much needed attention as well including carpet, fresh paint, and new furniture. PTO has set aside funds for these "big kids" to give them some unique play opportunities, too. They will be thrilled to get to vote for their favorite activities. Additionally, we have a family that is donating a regulation size basketball hoop!
The teachers, aides, office staff and administration will be busy on August 16th and 17th during our professional development retreat. We will be finalizing curriculum plans, diving into our testing data, and aligning our teaching practices. We can't wait to share our new growth mindset activities with you and your students!
Enjoy the last bits of summer, and we will see you on August 21.
The school year is beginning soon, and I want to welcome you as our partner in your child’s education. We value, appreciate, and seek out your involvement and collaboration for the success of your child.
We are asking all parents to help us ensure the regular, on-time attendance of their children at school. As we move into a 5-day per week schedule, we will be monitoring attendance closely because research has shown that regular attendance is vital for the success of children in school. California law states that absences are excused only if the child is ill or there is an excuse which meets the requirements of the California Education Code Section 48205. Even excused absences that cause your child to miss significant amounts of school can cause your child to fall behind in class.
Education Code Section 48260 defines a truant as a pupil who has missed more than 30 minutes on three days without valid excuse in one school year. Our goal is to have all children present in school every day and on time. Our school’s policy is that we may require verification of absences due to illness or quarantine, if your child has missed school for three consecutive days.
If your child is absent, please call our attendance line at (916) 259-1688 ext. 300 or email Tasha Raddigan at email@example.com to inform the school before 9:30 am.
Because of our charter status, we can offer families Independent Study when given two weeks advance notice. During independent study, your student(s) will have a packet of work that will be due on their first day back at school. If this work is not completed in its entirety and turned in on time, the student will receive unexcused absences for the days of school missed.
I look forward to working with you in a meaningful partnership for your child. We, at Harvest Ridge Placer Academy, will work very hard with you to ensure that your child receives the best education possible. We are depending on you, and we want to thank you for entrusting us with your child. To provide your child with an outstanding education, your child must maintain excellent attendance.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at (916) 259-1688.

Hola Placer Academy Families!
I'm so excited to be starting my 4th year here at Placer Academy! We are in store for a great year and I am so excited about the latest development to our program: a new Spanish room! Students K - 5th will be coming to me two times a week for 50 minute Spanish classes. We will be reviewing what we have learned the past three years, perfecting our pronunciation and learning new words and songs while we speak, read and write Spanish!
For Upper Academy I will be travelling to their homerooms two times a week for 50 minute classes. Grades 6th -8th have moved up to study two higher levels of our curriculum. We review what we learned in the first two levels of the program, add a lot of new vocabulary and use all we know to read and write longer stories. We will also begin conjugating verbs in the present and past tenses and work to commit those patterns to memory.
Thank you all for your support of our Spanish program. I am so proud of how much progress my students have made over the years and look forward to much more! Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to help out in any way.
From the Nurse:
Welcome to the new school year! I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing and enjoyable summer. Just a reminder, if your student has a medical condition or requires medication at school, please email me. We are not permitted to have any medication on campus without a physician order. My email is email@example.com. Here's to a great (and healthy!) school year!
One of our amazing families has generously donated solar eclipse viewers for all of our students to view the eclipse. This is sure to be a great learning experience and great fun, too!

What's Your Best Guess? Predicting Answers Leads to Deeper Learning
"Predictions pique our interest. Once we wager that our favorite sports team will win, we want to know the final score. Once we guess the identity of the murderer in a mystery novel, we keep reading to find out if we were right."
